Little Beauty Black Edition Pinot Gris awarded top accolade at Mundus Vini 2023 **BEST of SHOW New Zealand White Wine**.
On the first day of the biggest trade wine show in the world, ProWein Dusseldorf, team Little Beauty attended a special awards ceremony to collect the Grand Gold award – Best of Show New Zealand White Wine. Amongst the creme de la creme of top producers from all wine growing regions of the world, amongst producers who have been making wine for centuries, and amongst the who’s-who of the industry – Little Beauty stood proud.
What was extra exciting about this accolade are the messages behind the award.
- The varietal awarded was Pinot Gris, which is atypical for Marlborough. You’d normally expect a Sauvignon Blanc to take the top gong. It’s awesome the judging panel are recognising a non-Sauvignon Blanc varietal.
- The style is complex – made from expert and precision viticulture practice, in the cellar it is with the experience and skill of Eveline. Free run juice, barrel fermentation, wild yeast, time on lees, total time on Oak 12 months. The barrel strategy is particular, absolutely the IP of artisan, Eveline. It is awesome the judges rewarded a ‘next generation’ style Marlborough wine.
- It was 2014 vintage. 9-years bottle age. It is awesome the judges recognised a wine that is quietly ageing gracefully. And small parcels such as this are being released.
In our book, these three reasons exemplify Little Beauty as a range. The wines are made with experience, elegance, balance and integrity. They are built to last. The combination of elements – style, bottle age – is exactly what excites sommeliers and wine lovers. It’s experiential, gastronomic. Exactly the world Little Beauty hopes to live. We ain’t no Sauvignon Blanc factory. For us, individuality is where it’s at.
